Activities and Things to do: Surfing
Punta de Mita is 35 minutes from the airport in Puerto Vallarta. The drive takes you out to Bucerias and then along the northern coast of the Bay of Banderas. This is really where the magic starts with over 20 surf spots between Bucerias and the point at Punta de Mita. There are secluded beaches, tide pools, and safe swimming for the kids at many of them. The sleepy little village of El Ancolote provides the backdrop for all of this and there are some 15 restaurants situated on the beach. When the break in front of the restaurant El Corral works there just isn't any better way to spend a day. Grab a table, paddle out, and surf one of the most fun waves anywhere (think Mexican Malibu) and then join your friends for lunch while you watch the surfing action. Many of the breaks are best accessed by boat. If the swell is on then 3/4 of a mile from El Ancolote is "The Point"… think El Cap here because this wave moves. There are also some great reef breaks. If you are coming with children the beach directly in front of El Corral provides safe swimming and a great place to learn to surf especially for the kids. There are lots of other activities in the area. Punta de Mita has something for everyone, from relaxing on the palapa covered patios to surfing some of the cleanest waves Mexico has to offer. |
